Cheers! by MoAnanda: Review

Moana, a singer-songwriter, and Ananda, a producer-multi-instrumentalist-mixer, have teamed up to create the innovative indie-pop project MoAnanda. This group is renowned for its skill in fusing seemingly incompatible musical styles to create something wholly new and utterly emotional. The new single from them, titled ‘Cheers!’, is a celebratory way to ring in the new year.

This is the first of MoAnanda’s monthly releases leading up to their full-length debut in 2023. The upbeat, catchy song ‘Cheers!’ was written by Ceri Earle and features the sounds of clinking glasses and ice cubes. The music creates a novel and engaging sound by combining funk rock, earthy folk, sensual vocals, and electro-pop tunes. Despite the obvious difference between Moana’s impassioned vocals and Ananda’s loud synth bass, screaming vocals, and distorted guitars, the two artists’ approaches really complement rather than compete with one another. The beautiful, complicated, and yet calming and invigorating sound is the result of several melodic layers that weave together the two traditions. The duo makes use of joyous sounds like champagne corks popping, glasses clinking, and ovations to make listening more engaging and intimate.

‘Cheers!’ is a fantastic new song by MoAnanda. Because of the uniqueness and innovation of their music, the duo stands out from other indie-pop performers. Fans of the genre, and music lovers in general, should not pass up this fresh new release.
