Composers Concordance Records (CCR) releases an eclectic and orchestral compilation album, CompCord@40. This 22-track collection challenges you to explore the limits of musical creativity.
The album opens with a bang on “Good Times” by Joseph Pehrson and International Street Cannibals. Flutes frolic playfully, backed by a full orchestra that wouldn’t be out of place in a classic Disney film.
Moving on, “Paradoxes” by Gene Pritsker and other talented artists produces a paradox with a catchy, punchy, danceable tune driven by a pulsing drum beat and sparkling cymbals layered with strangely beautiful wailing, bending, plucking, and driving strings. Strange high vocals intrigue us in this unconventional experience.
“5 Songs from William Blake: No. 2. Tiger! Tiger!” by David Taylor and Joe Roccisano, will put you in a grave mood, put forth by suspenseful, intimidating brass instruments and strings, as if preceding a showdown.
“Rite Through an Eclectic Spectrum (After I. Stravinsky): II. Spring Swing [Live]” by Gene Pritsker and Igor Stravinsky is a funky good time. Thumping, upbeat drums, wailing brass, and an operatic vocalist who belts it out with soulful alacrity blend seamlessly with a wailing brass section, creating an irresistible groove.
“Guitar Sonata: III. Danza” by José Ardévol and Warren Nicholson has a more gentle outlook on the album. We find a guitar serenading us with its gentle strumming and expressive plucking.
The journey ends with “Snow” by Adriana Valdés, featuring Debra Kaye and Charles Coleman. A bed of enchanting piano sets the stage for a dramatic, operatic duet. They are so visceral in their performance, that the track almost morphs into a real-life stage play in your mind’s eye.
Listen to the magnificent creation, CompCord@40 released under Composers Concordance Records.
