Compulsions by Mike Power: Album Review
The charming sound of indie music, the gripping taste of rock and roll, and the soulful accompaniment through musical diversity. Such is the tale of Mike Powerโs album entitled โCompulsions.โ Have you ever sought a collection of tunes that sparks multiple genres? Then this album is right up your alley, friend!
The albumโs inception starts with folksy numbers such as โThe Crack Of Dawnโ and โLet The River Flowโ. Both these tracks have a calming acoustic melody that is quite pleasant to hear. Interestingly enough, both songs seem to have a connection where one continues after the other leaves off. This fine progression brought along a moving balance which was a great start to the album. Moving on to the third track of the album โI Like Youโ energized me. Primarily because of the hard rock style guitar bits, yet with a clean tone, and aggressive vocals to go along with it. Percussions enter the mix, and the instrumentation enters a more upbeat atmosphere.
Mike Powerโs album has intriguing twists and turns. This is especially felt with the gloomy ode โThe Light In Your Eyesโ, where one minute the song drowns itself in sorrow, and eventually transcends listeners with an epic rising tempo. Exiting the album, felt immensely sentimental. One might wonder why in fact, well itโs all in the melodic essence. โAnything But Loveโ is a heartfelt track filled with alternative rock-style guitar bits, and in combination with the bass, the fingerpicking feels truly resonant.
