The indie rock band straight out of Athens, Georgia Casual Americans, is here with their single, “Cowards,”
The anthem of defiance wrapped in a blanket of sunshiney goodness, packs a thick punch right from the start with rumbling drums. It opens the path for Justin Reynold’s charming, soothing voice, trailing along perfectly with the chiming guitars and tumbling drums. With backing vocals crooning behind his vocals and evoking a positive and soulful vibe, the song gets its gist of soulful positivity and nostalgia.
The groove amps up only to show that “Cowards” has teeth. The guitars kick in with glistening riffs that soar over the pulsating rhythm section. Reynolds’ vocals rise to meet the challenge, becoming anthemic and echoing as he sings in his youthful voice with a sweet and promising passion. He sings of commitment and promises to be “here to stay” till the lights go out, showcasing the band’s integrity and courage. There’s a clear message here: Casual Americans are no cowards, and they’re not backing down from anything.
Despite the punchy instrumentals, the song retains a wide-open atmosphere. The breathing space makes you imagine driving down a scenic highway with the windows down. Meanwhile, the wind in your hair and the feeling of endless possibilities stretching out before you make you feel as exhilarated as the thumping music.
Influences of Beck, Spoon, and The Shins, with the harmonies connecting with The Beatles, stand true with “Cowards.” It’s a melting pot of rock royalty, reimagined for the modern age.
“Cowards” was only a track from their self-titled 10-track album, which was mixed and mastered by big names. Check out Casual Americans to get a whole range of the band’s nostalgic rock moods.
