Natalie Livingston’s “All The Best” plays like a wistful film reel unraveling in your head, part vintage, part timeless, entirely cinematic. The NYC-based indie-pop artist ushers in her self-described “movie about the 50s released in the 80s” era with this dreamy first single, a dazzling, vulnerable gem that glows like a sunset over heartbreak, from her upcoming EP.
Opening with a delicate piano melody and Natalie’s gossamer voice floating above, “All The Best” tiptoes into your chest intimately. Her vocals are high, soft, and impossibly elegant, delivering lines that ache with restraint and resolution. She sings, “’Cause I don’t want to see you with somebody else / Now that I have reconciled with myself,” reminding usof the strange duality of letting go while still being tethered to the past, scared we may fall apart once more. It’s emotionally raw but never melodramatic; more like a sigh than a scream.
As the song builds, soft, catchy drums join to thump steadily beneath the surface like a beating heart still bruised. Ethereal harmonies float around her voice, shimmering like ghosts of memories that once felt alive. The warmth and weightlessness of the production were all thanks to her brother Justin Livingston and producer Tiger Darrow, who also brought a modern polish to this retro-tinged ballad.
Then comes the bridge, where Natalie’s voice swells into something soaring and heart-splitting. “I know I will never find better,” she repeats, over a backdrop of gritty guitars. This cathartic moment shows she’s not saying “all the best” with a healed state. Listen to “All The Best” by Natalie Livingston on Spotify.
