Orientalism has a lure all its own. They are enchanting, enigmatic, and upbeat all at once. Baklava Express saw the mystical energy of this sound that Occidentals often find themselves hooked on and took it upon themselves to recreate it with a diverse fusion. If you are wondering what’s behind the instrumentals, we have oud, violins, guitar, qanun, bass, and percussion playing harmonies for us to evoke an Arab world sound.
From Kosher Bacon to Baklava Express, we have a sizzling Arab spice market presented to us with the music flowing like hot smoke emanating from the 9-track album, Dàvka. Kosher Bacon, starting with dark acoustic music gnarling, takes us to a violin intro that is absolutely captivating and curvy. Kosher Bacon flows into a faster tempo track going by the same name as the album itself. The violin is the highlight of the track. Dàvka has much to represent as a track, and it kept its words—or, should we say, the sound—with the upbeat storytelling.
Up to Us, the 5th track, is more unique as the heart of the album, with the oud making the whole sound flow into different cultural spectrums with its diverse arrangement. The violins are strong and are used as the ground for the other instrumentals to trot and merry upon in a tribal dance leading into a tap dance. The last track is very special for us because it goes by the same name as the project. I expected it would embody the project’s character in the album. It did more! It conclusively brought forth the magnificence of each instrument used and paid respects in a way that you would expect the credits to start rolling after a vivid film.
Baklava Express united world music with their hypnotic album, Dàvka. So be a part of it by tuning in to the tunes today!
