Lili-Violet gets vulnerable about her life and expresses herself transparently in her debut EP Dear Lilith, released on August 22, 2024. Fans of Jaguar Jonze, Lily Allen, Kate Nash, and a dash of Avril Lavigne’s attitude are invited to enjoy these tunes. Opening the EP with a bang, “Cut ‘N’ Run” sets the tone with its introducing droning buzzes and Lili’s husky, deep vocals. She builds a moody atmosphere, slowly ramping up the tension until the bridge breaks the calm with crashing drums and soaring energy.
In “Anxiety,” Lili takes us inside the mind of someone riddled with anxious thoughts, like the opening line: “Is he looking at me funny?” Her diaristic lyrics over a lush, pulsating beat turn this track into a modern-day anxiety anthem. It’s both relatable and cathartic, with Lili’s soaring vocals pulling us into her emotional whirlwind.
“Blue” is where Lili’s frustrations come to life, throwing shade at an ex with an unapologetic edge. The song bursts with vibrant riffs and hurling drums, her vocals full of righteous anger and liberation. Lyrics like “You made me feel blue, so I’ll paint over you” show Lili isn’t about to let heartache define her.
Lili-Violet takes a defiant stance in “Time + Space.” The fuzzy guitars and gritty storytelling give the song an infectious, rebellious edge. With lines like “I won’t wait, I won’t wait for you,” she makes it clear that her time and space are her own.
The final track, Whiskey or Love (Rose-Coloured Glasses), is the playful yet introspective closer. Beginning with shimmering, romantic melodies that quickly fade, the song captures the confusion between a boozy spark and real affection. The thumping drums and catchy hooks make it impossible to resist. It’s a dynamic, fun way to end the EP while keeping things reflective.
Dear Lilith by Lili-Violet is as relatable as it is well-made, especially for the youth. Check it out on Spotify.
