Jason Lyles confronts mortality and grieves his late pet in his latest single, โDeflated.โ Inspired by seeing his beloved pet slowly succumbing to death, Lyles channels his emotions into a poignant alt-rock piece that delves deep into loss and accepting the cycle of life for that it must end.
The song opens with a powerful combination of heavy and grunge guitar riffs and steady drum beats, immediately setting a tone of angst and agony. Lylesโ raspy vocals have a hypnotic energy as he tries to imagine himself dying to depict the misery. In this very humane way, he gives voice to the thoughts and emotions of a suffering animal.
The instrumentals speak volumes for the turmoil and acceptance that accompany the inevitable end of life. What it also does, is offer both darkness and upliftment in equal measure thanks to the lush vocals that trail ethereally in the noise. As the song culminates, the mesmerizing string arrangement elevates the emotional intensity of Lylesโ introspective lyrics.
Accompanying the single is a 2D stop-motion animation video created by print artist Alex Birghenthal. Check out the balloon character that deflates along its journey to demise. โDeflatedโ consoles and reassures those grappling with loss and healing. Lyles reminds us through this track that no one is alone in their grief.
As a performer, Lyles continues to captivate audiences throughout the southeast and midwest, both as a solo acoustic act and with his band, Jason Lyles and the Legitimizers. Stay tuned with the artist and get immersed in โDeflated.โ
