Thanksgiving gets its own gloriously goofy soundtrack with “It’s Turkey Day,” a comedy single from Dallas-based entertainer Dean Morgan, performing as Sheldon Mashugana, alongside singer and collaborator Crystal Carr.
Packed with holiday cheer, playful absurdity, and enough turkey-chasing madness to keep the dinner table entertained, this upbeat number takes aim at one simple mission: celebrating Thanksgiving with plenty of food, family, and laughter. And yes, there are fart jokes, because apparently no festive feast is complete without a little juvenile mischief!
The song gets its groove going with thumping beats and a catchy, harmonious backing that feels bright and cartoonishly cheerful. Carr leads the charge with her deliciously sweet, delicate high voice, delivering the melody with an infectious sense of enjoyment and gratitude for all the Thanksgiving goodies. Behind her, Sheldon barges into the picture with a thick, exaggerated, almost animated voice, hyping up the proceedings with humorous spoken-word interjections. Their contrasting styles make for an entertaining double act, as Carr supplies the sugary melodic center while Sheldon adds the comic chaos, turning the track into something resembling a holiday musical sketch set to a poppy beat.
The story follows the pair on a ridiculous pursuit of a Thanksgiving turkey, with the adventure even detouring to a Dallas Cowboys game. It’s an appropriately over-the-top premise for a song that aims less for sophistication than for a good-natured giggle. The doubled-up vocal lines add extra punch, while the combination of sung passages and comedic asides keeps the arrangement lively. Written by Morgan and Carr, with Carr and Justin Pierce handling the music, the track was recorded in Atlanta and mixed in Dallas.
Holiday songs tend to circle back to familiar seasonal traditions, but “It’s Turkey Day” takes the road less travelled by giving Thanksgiving itself the spotlight. Silly, sweet and unapologetically cheesy, it’s a playful alternative to the usual seasonal soundtrack, best served alongside a generous helping of food and a family willing to laugh at a few decidedly immature jokes.
