Sunset Salore’s haunting take on Tame Impala’s “Dracula” finds a darker, more intimate beauty in simplicity. The Melbourne-based singer-songwriter, originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland, has built her artistic identity around an eclectic alternative-pop sensibility, but here she strips everything back to piano and voice, allowing the song’s atmosphere and emotional character to take center stage. Released on October 16, 2026, just in time for Halloween, this understated cover offers a strikingly different perspective on the original.
Gentle piano notes flow with an almost delicate restraint, creating a soft musical bed over which Salore’s voice gradually opens up. She brings a tender, thick, and rich tone with a gorgeous vibrato that gives every phrase a lingering emotional resonance. She soars through the melody with a mesmerizing ease, bringing a lushness to the lines. She lets her voice breathe, swell and settle captivatingly, making even the quietest moments feel deeply expressive. She draws you in through the sheer warmth and intimacy of her performance.
Influenced by both Tame Impala’s original and Jennie’s interpretation, Salore imagined a more haunting, stripped-back version, and the result feels wonderfully personal. Recorded live at Melbourne’s Humble Studios for its “One Take Tuesdays” series, the performance captures her playing keys and singing simultaneously through a single condenser microphone. The accompanying video was filmed in real time on a phone with a gimbal, keeping the presentation deliberately lo-fi and immediate. Produced by Spud Thompson at Elusive Creative, with Tay Piggott handling the recording, the simplicity of the process suits the music beautifully.
The cover also arrives after a snippet attracted nearly 300,000 views on social media, with listeners asking for the complete performance. It’s Sunset Salore’s first release since her acclaimed debut EP, Love Kills the Monsters, and a welcome reminder of her expressive capabilities. With original music expected in 2027, “Dracula” makes for an enchanting return: intimate, evocative and quietly spellbinding.
