Abraham Manticore enters the darker corners of alternative music with “Dust on Tongue,” a brooding collision of Darkwave, Goth Rock, and Coldwave that treats forgiveness more like a difficult road walked in the dark. Built around atmospheric guitars, minimalist textures, and a cinematic sense of space, the track carries the weight of someone finally confronting what they have spent too long trying to bury.
The song moves with hard-hitting beats and deep bass, giving its otherwise shadowy arrangement a physical pulse. At the center, the voice arrives in a deep, gravelly timbre, sounding weathered rather than theatrical. There is something compellingly worn-in about the delivery, particularly as the voice grows sharper and more grinding on “Old chains break / When I say Your name.” That change in texture becomes one of the song’s most effective devices. Healing scratches at old wounds before they can close, and the vocal performance captures that back-and-forth beautifully.
Lyrically, “Dust on Tongue” is blunt about guilt. Images of smoke-covered hands, crooked roads, mirrors revealing uncomfortable truths, and a name being laid at another’s feet turn repentance into something tangible. The repeated “Repent, repent” works almost like a ritual, gradually shifting from confession toward release. By the final stretch, the speaker is no longer merely admitting what went wrong but accepting mercy and choosing to turn around.
That makes the darkness here feel purposeful rather than hopeless. Manticore’s interest in forgiveness gives the track a surprisingly human warmth beneath its coldwave exterior. His embrace of contemporary technology, including AI as a creative instrument, also sits interestingly beside such an ancient emotional subject: guilt, grace, and the desire to become someone different.
“Dust on Tongue” ultimately sounds like a confession made under a black sky, and the first sign that morning might still come.
