Nigerian-born, US-based genre-bender ZeXzy makes a fearless statement with his sprawling 28-track debut album Every Sound, released via Maple Grove Entertainment. ZeXzy builds the record as a globe-spanning odyssey through Afrobeats, Latin grooves, soft rock, Caribbean rhythms, jazz, and hip-hop.
With features from global names like Lil Wayne and Natasha Gartner, plus introspective turns alongside Italian-Canadian rapper Versvs, the project cements his arrival as a boundary-smashing voice in contemporary music.
The album sets its tone with the spoken-word “Intro,” where orchestral swells carry ZeXzy’s declaration of a world tour through sound itself, positioning the project as nothing less than a cultural voyage. Then comes “Every Sound,” the euphoric title track, where romantic horns and jittery percussion lift ZeXzy’s light, soaring voice into an anthem of unity. When he sings “Music’s got the world love bound, my love for you is all way round,” it’s like a pledge to art itself, an embrace of rhythm as a binding force.
ZeXzy doesn’t shy away from sharp commentary, either. On “Government Feast,” thundering bass and a buoyant groove back his satirical lines about corruption, “Aso Rock feeding 7 billion / and now we dey owe 77 trillion,” where his humor veils a deep frustration with leaders turning joy into farce. In contrast, “Obsession” drapes listeners in sensuality, with Natasha Gartner’s velvet tone weaving against ZeXzy’s, capturing the irresistible pull of desire. Later, “Live” strips everything down to strings, plucked guitars, and vulnerability, with Versvs singing about unbroken rap on mental health struggles. ZeXzy counters with the mantra, “I choose to live,” as he turns the vulnerability into an anthem of survival.
Across Every Sound, ZeXzy proves himself a chameleon that dapples many moods, exposing just how multifaceted a human being can be. Listen to it on Spotify, to be pleasantly surprised.
