1. Can you tell us a bit about where you come from and how you got started?
GL1TCH:ย I was born and raised in Orlando. I stay here now because of how great the community is here and the music scene as a whole. I originally made indie rock music under the name Limb0. One day while I was at an open mic this guy came up to me saying he loved my music. He asked me to be apart of his record label. At the time I was skeptical because I had just met the guy but as I got to know him I found out we had went to the same high school and graduated the same year, but we never met. He also told me there would be no contracts for awhile so I knew I had time to get to know him and the company. I ended up becoming one of the owners and founders as we started the LLC together. He wanted to make the company EDM focused and although I wasnโt making that kind of music at the time I had always wanted to make dubstep music and that was my push to finally start making it.
2. Did you have any formal training or are you self-taught?
GL1TCH: I am โself-taughtโ but I learned most of what I know from the people I have met on my journey and by watching months worth of youtube videos.
3. Who were your first and strongest musical influences and why the name โGL1TCHโ?
GL1TCH: So originally my biggest influences are Tame Impala and Dave Grohl from foo fighters. Moving into EDM my most strongest influence is LSDream. He makes sound healing dubstep music and as my goals in music is to make music that helps people, his music has helped me so much and opened my mind to so many possibilities on what dubstep music can mean. The name Gl1tch comes from an experience I had on LSD. When I started to trip I was watching โNarutoโ and I had been for months prior, trying to watch all 1000 something episodes. As the tabs kicked in I stopped watching it because I didnโt want to watch violence while I was in those sensitive head spaces. The problem started to arise that when I tried to watch anything else it would start glitching. Youtube would give me error messages, Netflix wouldnโt load an show past 99%, Spotify would stop the songs 10 seconds into the song. After troubleshooting any internet problems I could I finally decided to at least try watching Naruto. During the peak of my trip I had watched one of the Climaxes of the series where Obito reveals who he truly is. The plot twist that took hundreds of episodes to lead up to. The whole experience blew my mind so wide open (Also because of the spiritual themes that are talked about at the end of the series) that when I sat contemplating what had just happened I had decided to name my artistโs names after the trip. The symbols of duality talked about in the show inspired Limb0, and the glitching that led me to watch Naruto let me to the name Gl1tch. Originally I had planned to keep Gl1tch music underground and never tell anybody about it as I focused on Limb0 but after starting Antique Records I decided to full send โGl1tchโ.
4. What do you feel are the key elements in your music that should resonate with listeners, and how would you personally describe your sound?
GL1TCH: My music is made using sound alchemy and light codes to help heal people from their traumas and progress them in their lives in the way that they want to. My goals with my music is to help heal the planet from all the darkness that goes on here and also heal my listeners from their problems they have. I love using deep heavy wubs, but also experimenting with new sounds that have never been made before. I aim to make music that is new and can help people.
6. Whatโs your view on the role and function of music as political, cultural, spiritual, and/or social vehicles โ and do you try and affront any of these themes in your work, or are you purely interested in music as an expression of technical artistry, personal narrative and entertainment?
GL1TCH:
I think the music industry is corrupted by greedy record labels and corrupt souls trying to control the planet through the influence that music has on peopleโs thoughts and emotions. With the power of technology and how it changes the modern industry I strive to help as many artists as I can with my company to make their dreams happen without having to sell their soul, even if they donโt become paying clients, or artists who are signed. I still want to help everyone I meet in eveyway that I can. I aim to take part in the shift that this industry is facing in ending the power these corrupt labels have over it and give the power back to the artists. In my own music I want to make music that can positively influence people while at the same time still going HARD and creating a unique sound.
7. Do you feel that your music is giving you back just as much fulfilment as the amount of work you are putting into it, or are you expecting something more, or different in the future?
GL1TCH:
I put countless hours into my music. My literal blood, sweat, and tears. Even my mental health and several aspects of my life take a toll so I can make this happen for me and everyone around me. At the moment I am not getting back what I put into it but I also understand this isnโt something that happens over night and everything I do is constantly growing. I am content with the growth I am seeing and where I am heading. Although I am not playing super big shows and getting thousands of streams from my music, I still feel happier than ever when anyone comes up to me and tells me how much they love what I have going on and how much I inspire them. That to me is worth everything I do.
8. Could you describe your creative processes? How do usually start, and go about shaping ideas into a completed song? Do you usually start with a tune, a beat, or a narrative in your head? And do you collaborate with others in this process?
GL1TCH:
Every song is different. Sometimes Ill get ideas that just come to me. Itโs a really weird sensation because ill hear this song in my head almost like itโs a normal song thatโs just stuck in my head, but i have never heard this song before. In those cases Iโll immediately start writing or notating any idea I can to save it until I can sit down and really start working. Sometimes Iโll just sit down and start writing the first thing that comes to my head. I usully do this with ideas that I have already previously received, but sometimes Iโll come up with whole songs just by messing around on the pads.
9. What has been the most difficult thing youโve had to endure in your life or music career so far?
GL1TCH: At the moment the most intense and scariest things Iโve had to face I am under NDAโs not to talk about it. Seeing things that I previously thought were just conspiracy theories play out in front of me has shown me the reality of the entertainment industry as a whole. The worst thing I am actively enduring is sleep deprivation. It causes me a bunch of unnecessary stress and makes it harder to work. Also the stress that comes from not sleeping keeps me up at night its itโs just really hard.
10. On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your life or music career so far?GL1TCH: The most recent accomplishment I have had was getting to play at Celine in Orlando a week before one of my favorite artists got to play on that same stage. The things that make me feel the most happy is when people come up to me and tell me how much I inspire them though. There is nothing better than the inner knowing that what I am doing is already helping other people.
