Exhale by Holozoa: Review
Holozoa is a project that was formed in 2019 by London-based Sound Designer / Composer Lex Kosanke and Sheffield-based Performer / Director Lauren Partridge. The band is inspired by dance music but from a unique perspective.
Their EP titled “Exhale” feels like a breath of fresh air (pun intended). No, but seriously, Holozoa’s sound is exceptional, and you’d be a fool not to hear and appreciate their music. Here is my detailed breakdown of each song on the EP –
Sweet chances – The beginning reminded me of the elvish voice from lord of the rings. Cinematic, and kinda like a video game soundtrack. Beat heavy, has a unique techno sound, with some atmospheric music
The words sound wrong – A bit of EDM, with clean vocals. Remarkable vocal harmony, with keyboard fillers, and a heavy bass rhythm.
Yola – Smooth guitar intro a bit like neo-soul, with electro bass, and an elegant vocal melody. Accompanied by an excellent groove, and guitar fusion with an electronic sound. Has a catchy chorus. There’s an absolute fire moment in the middle of the song, and the ending exits with a banger.
Breath – Mysterious intro, with echo-like music. Good song structure. Almost at the end, the bridge has a unique melody with distorted vocals. The beats are mixed with background vocals and electronic effects, sounds nice!
Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club – Energetic percussive intro, keyboard arpeggios sound great mixed with vocals. The singer’s voice is as usual melodic and represents the song’s structure with sensation. A scale change takes near the end of the song, which was surprising and pretty awe-inspiring.
