The single is Tones And Iโs first new music since the release of her critically acclaimed debut album, Welcome To The Madhouse. โEyes Donโt Lie,โ which is accompanied by an official music video created by Tones And I, Nick Kozakis, and Liam Kelly, shows the Australian musician letting go of a toxic relationship and forging on through the ruins.
Tones And I elaborated on the new single, saying, โThe song โEyes Donโt Lieโ is about a significant loss of someone or something. Resenting the person or feeling youโre experiencing and realize it was all along a toxic person or feeling. Someone is exploiting you, and you are exploiting yourself. Youโre feeling much better now, and youโve put the last vestige of bitterness behind you.โ She went on to say about the songโs accompanying video, โThe music video portrays someone who is alone but not lonely. Even when itโs finished, escaping something that hurt and being delighted to be somewhere else. Before I move on, Iโm still pondering and expressing my story one last time.โ
Tones And I will embark on a string of worldwide festival appearances this summer, including appearances at Mexicoโs Tecate Emblema Festival, the Netherlandsโ Pinkpop Festival, Spainโs Mad Cool Festival, and others.
Before flying across the Atlantic for the North American part of her headline tour, which kicks off July 23rd in Philadelphia, PA [complete tour schedule below], Tones And I will make a handful of headline European engagements in Belgium, France, Austria, and the United Kingdom. Welcome To The Madhouse, which was released in July, opened at #1 on Australiaโs ARIA Albums Chart, continuing Tones And Iโs remarkable run of success. From busking in Byron Bay to international celebrity to bidding farewell to her best friend, the album chronicles an extremely honest and colorful experience. Tones And I is a powerful and mesmerizing 14-track compilation composed entirely by the Australian singer, with her co-producing each song.
The track โFly Away,โ a poetic and dramatic composition that Tones And I performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Ellen DeGeneres Show, is the albumโs highlight. Welcome To The Madhouse also includes โWonโt Sleep,โ which was released alongside an official music video directed by Tones And I, Nick Kozakis, and Liam Kelly, and โCloudy Day,โ which was hailed by VARIETY as โthe perfect pandemic anthemโ after Tones And I performed it on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and TODAY.
With her global breakthrough โDance Monkey,โ the most Shazamed single of all time and officially the 3rd most played song of all time on Spotify, Tones And I blasted into pop cultureโs consciousness, making the track the most streamed song ever by a female artist on the platform. The official music video for โDance Monkeyโ has surpassed 1.8 billion views on YouTube since its release, while the track has surpassed seven billion streams worldwide and earned 6x platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in the United States, as well as multi-platinum or diamond certification in sixteen other countries.
In addition, โDance Monkeyโ reached #4 on Billboardโs Hot 100 list, marking the first time in almost eight years that a female-written song has reached the top five. โDance Monkeyโ holds the all-time record for the most weeks spent at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart in Australia, and โDance Monkeyโ has made Tones And I the longest-running #1 by a female artist on the Official Singles Chart in the United Kingdom. In their Diary of a Song video series, the New York Times documented the development of โDance Monkey,โ speaking with Tones And I about her path from local busker to global success.
Tones And Iโs RIAA gold-certified debut EP The Kids Are Coming includes โDance Monkey,โ which earned her four major accolades at last yearโs ARIA Awards, including โBreakthrough Artist,โ โBest Female Artist,โ โBest Pop Release,โ and โBest Independent Release.โ Following the EPโs release, Tones And I performed โDance Monkeyโ and standout song โNever Seen The Rainโ on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Vocals, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and The Today Show, showcasing her incredible voice.
Tones and I, from from Australiaโs Mornington Peninsula, arrived to Byron Bay in early 2018 to try busking. Crowds spilled out onto the street on the first day. Tones abandoned her retail job and moved to Byron, where she spent a year living out of her van, polishing her songwriting skills and busking every weekend. With her global smash โDance Monkey,โ she had one of the most popular songs in the world a year later.
