With “Falsify,” Munk Duane signs off on a deeply personal and politically charged era of his career, and he does it with a bang. Released on June 2, 2025, this final single under the Munk Duane moniker is a biting, sonically rich culmination of five years of musical evolution that began during the pandemic.
The track roars to life with gritty distortion and pulsating beats, immediately immersing the listener in a dark, synth-soaked world. Drawing on Prince-inspired ‘80s synth-pop aesthetics, complete with classic LinnDrum textures and vintage keyboard shimmer, DUane makes retro and modern, lush yet razor-edged music.
His vocals cut through with cold clarity, switching between scathing precision and sweeping, anthemic belting. The robotic refrain of “falsify” echoes like a dystopian chant, capturing the mood of disillusionment in a world riddled with misinformation, corruption, and performative politics. It’s a breakaway song, from illusions, from control, and from an old creative identity. The top-layer chiming synths add a nervous tension, keeping the listener alert and unsettled, as if something sinister might be lurking beneath the beat. And that’s precisely the point.
Produced, performed, and written entirely by Duane himself, and mastered by Brian Lucey (whose credits include The Black Keys and Mac Miller), “Falsify” is a full-stop punctuation mark. But this ending is also a pivot. Duane is already deep into his next project, Circles of Saints, which promises a cinematic and art-rock departure inspired by Son Lux and Sufjan Stevens.
If “Falsify” is the stormy climax of one chapter, it’s also the perfect prologue to another. For fans of genre-defying musicianship and fearless reinvention, Munk Duane just gave us one last jolt before turning the page.
