In her striking new single “Feel it,” Kris Kolls delivers a hypnotic, genre-blurring, introspective anthem. Emerging as a bold voice in the alt-pop and electronic scene, Kolls has created a moody personal manifesto through her song. The track pulls you in with a laid-back, almost nonchalant vocal delivery, set against pulsing beats and fragmented, chaotic, and calculated electronic textures. The cool tension in the atmosphere reminds you of walking alone at night with your headphones up and thoughts running deep.
Her high and delicate, wispy voice rides the track with an effortless and nonchalant fluidity. The verses float over a swirling bed of synths and pulsing rumbles, swooshing and driving together before the bridge swings the music to a different trajectory. Suddenly, we’re suspended and immersed in a shimmering, cinematic soundscape, where soulful high harmonies cascade around her voice like moonlight through water. It’s enchanting, unexpected, and momentarily transcendent. This ambient contrast pulls the whole track into new territory.
“Feel It” expresses gentle self-possession. From musing over coffee and dancing alone to howling at the moon and whispering to it in solitude, Kolls captures the joy of self-love and the surrealness of reckoning. She sings, “She pulls me in, I can’t resist / She bends my will, I can’t persist” blur the line between desire and surrender, emotion and mysticism. But it’s that addictive hook—“Feel it feel it feel it feel it”—chanted like a mantra, that seals the deal, pushing us and making us feel.
