Australian/French duo Golem Dance Cult is taking you on a trip down the rabbit hole with their visually stunning and unsettlingly familiar music video for “Feels Like Tuesday (Deja Vu).”
The video, released on May 24 to celebrate the first birthday of their album “Legend of the Bleeding Heart,” is a cinematically aesthetic nightmare come true. Motivated by the idea of being trapped in a Tuesday that just keeps repeating, only it gets darker and more desperate with each loop.
We see unsettling glimpses of Nosferatu, both in grotesque stop-motion animation by the artist ithinkimightbeclay and extracted scenes, and even trippy Alice in Wonderland imagery—all drenched in a dark, brooding color palette. Intercut with these nightmarish scenes are shots of the band members, looking suitably intense in a Hammer Horror atmosphere as they unleash their musical mayhem.
Heavy, ominous, melodic riffs set the scene, punctuated by sparkly cymbals that shimmer like shattered glass. An eerie undercurrent from the string section crawls up your spine with vibrations, while the vocalist croons with a stuporous, ghostly haze. It’s a perfect marriage of sound and vision, a video that’s as artistic and well-made as it is disturbing.
“Feels Like Tuesday (Deja Vu)” gets on with the guitars grinding with increasing intensity. They mirror the mounting desperation in the lyrics. Drums pound relentlessly, and amidst the cacophony, the cello by Jean-Philippe Feiss injects a pulse of swelling melancholy. The scene of the cellist playing their instrument captivates with gothic, tragic beauty.
Listen to “Feels Like Tuesday (Deja Vu)” by Golem Dance Cult to get exhilarated while questioning your sanity.
