Jude Austin, O turns personal upheaval into quietly haunting pop-alternative blues with “Find Me at Home,” a cathartic song born during a pivotal period of transition and later revisited with years of vocal and production development behind it. Co-written with Anthony Snape, who also appears on vocals, the track transforms an intensely vulnerable experience into something restrained, melodic, and deeply human.
The song opens gently with a soothing, almost whimsical melody that initially gives the impression of warmth. However, a softly strummed guitar undercurrent keeps a subtle tension running through the arrangement. Jude’s thick, husky, grainy voice arrives with striking directness, delivering the lyrics. That straightforwardness makes the performance feel conversational, almost like someone finally saying aloud what they have been carrying around for too long.
There is a defeated melancholy woven through the verses. Jude sings from a place of desperation and loneliness, describing the structures and circumstances that have held him back.
The story behind the recording gives that contrast considerable weight. The song was originally written in January 2021, shortly after Jude had begun his male transition and experienced a painful encounter with a relative following his coming out. In a single songwriting session lasting less than an hour, Jude and Anthony shaped the experience into chords, melody, and words. Jude’s vocals at the time reflected an earlier stage of his transition, while Anthony’s stronger male lead provided a complementary presence.
Four years later, Jude returned to the song after extensive vocal retraining and music-production development, self-producing the finished version in Ableton. That passage of time gives “Find Me at Home” an unusual quality: it is both a document of an earlier wound and evidence of the person who survived it.
As the song approaches its conclusion, swelling strings gradually widen the emotional frame. “Find Me at Home” gives loneliness a melody—and lets that melody search for somewhere to belong.
