“Fire and Tears” by Fire and Tears wastes no time making its mark. Off the band’s self-titled debut, Fire and Tears, this is a statement piece, in-between gothic anthem, battle hymn, and all heart-pounding metal fury. The record as a whole is an epic saga, but this track feels like the crown jewel, carrying the spirit of rebellion and reverence in its veins. If you are into Iron Maiden, Powerwolf, Sabaton, or Within Temptation, then you are gonna find a similar vein within this self-titled song.
The song glows at first with soft piano, almost lulling you into calm like a chapel hymn in ruins, before the guitars storm the gates with shredding, cold, sharp riffs. Then comes the thick, emotive voice with grit and gravity, brimming with passion. When he soars into the higher belts to the top of his voice, it’s impassioned and vehement.
Lyrically, “Fire and Tears” drenches itself in gothic imagery. Latin chants punctuate the verses like incantations, binding the spiritual with the visceral. The guitars answer back with grinding distortion, layered under pounding drums that sound less like percussion and more like marching orders. By the time the chorus hits, it’s impossible not to feel swept up in the storm.
This track is myth turned music, grief turned into grit. “Fire and Tears” is an oath set to melody. Listen to the fiery piece on Spotify.
