Norwegian producer, songwriter, and artist Robert Vendetta unveils a soul-stirring composition in his latest single, “Fool.” This musical tapestry, laden with elegant piano tunes and sonorous vocals, invites listeners into his introspection and regret.
The song opens with rhythmic and rippling piano tunes. The piano serves as both the foundation and the driving force, weaving through the composition with cinematic grace. Each note charms with nostalgia and emotion, creating a captivating backdrop for the lyrical narrative.
Robert Vendetta’s vocals are a highlight of “Fool,” resonating with depth, sweetness, and a captivating range. As he sings, his voice soars and cascades, carrying the weight of the introspective lyrics. The catchiness of the vocal delivery, paired with ethereal backing vocals, adds a retro and soulful dimension to the composition.
The refrain, “What have I done?” encapsulates the essence of the song’s lyrical theme. He presents the context of a character who chased money and worked so hard towards the future that he lost his present. All connections eroded away. Despite the somber undertones, the song becomes a favorite, possibly due to the possibility of redemption due to self-realization.
Robert Vendetta collaborated with his band: Anders Jansvik on drums, Torunn Christelle on mellotron, and Håvard Solli on bass. And so we received the layered and nuanced sound of this magical retropop piece. Once you know he was heavily inspired by artists like Ariana Grande, Laleh, and Leonard Cohen, you can understand where his sound comes from.
