Foster the Prankster drops catchy new song ‘Tie-Dye Skies’

For more than 15 years, Foster the Prankster has quietly carried the underground hip-hop torch. With mixtapes featured on and sponsored by some of the biggest blogs at the time, the New Jersey native formerly known as Vibes made his debut on the hip-hop blog scene.
‘Merry Prankster’, Foster’s most recent (and allegedly final) album, breaks his silence with the ferocity of a true underdog artist at the height of his powers. Foster the Prankster collaborates once again with longtime friend and producer Prolific, formerly of Trackfiends, to create a visceral, unvarnished, unsettling, thought-provoking, and beautiful portrait of the modern American experience. ‘Merry Prankster’ is the title of a theme that Foster The Prankster has been gradually revealing over the past six years since assuming the “Prankster” moniker.
Foster began incorporating the imagery and philosophy of some of the movement’s most compelling figures, including Ken Kesey, the author of “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest,” and the Merry Pranksters, as a student of the psychedelic revolution of the 1960s counter-culture.
Foster draws a vivid picture of the American road trip experience from his own experiences in the lead single, ‘Tie-Dye Skies’, from his new album. Foster and a few friends set out on their own all-American road trip in 2020, at the height of COVID lockdowns in the US, to see the country in all its natural splendor, visiting national parks and forests. Being from a low-income background, Foster was greatly impacted by this experience. Growing up in the hood is like being in a cage where you can’t see the bars until you get out of the maze, he rhymes in ‘Tie-Dye Skies’. It serves as a reminder of the trauma and helplessness that frequently leave many of the nation’s youth feeling trapped and disillusioned with American patriotism. The song is carefree in its invitation to adventure while being aware of how our journey shapes our viewpoint.
