FREAK by Rob Lea: Review
Who called in the Rock authorities? Or is Rob Lea representing them at the forefront? Because “FREAK” is a Rock\Funk melodic sensation that will make you and your eardrums jump up and down out of pure excitement. Both Rob’s literary flow and his singing in a funk manner may be described as anything and everything at the same time. You’d be left wondering if it was blues, jazz, or rock. Well, Rob blends a few different musical styles here and there, and his vocals unquestionably set the mood for what is sonically satisfying and enjoyable to listen to.
The ferocious guitar riffs, the rough drum rolls, and the song as a whole combine to create a masterpiece that you just must experience. The guitar arrangement has that jangly rhythm to it, and it is played with a touch of suppressed volume at the beginning before building up to a more chaotic level in the higher passages.
The final parts ramp up the intensity of the guitar riffs, and the whole sound is quite focused. There are also some sections that are pure, but eventually, the build-up to the chorus, during which the guitar becomes increasingly distorted, molds Rob’s voice into a strong rock ode that will spark your rebellious nature. The theme of this song is reveling in the ways in which you vary from the “Norm.” It’s a way of flashing the middle finger to everyone who tries to bring you down.
