Nottingham-based singer-songwriter, Harpa is baring her soul and moving on, on her latest single, โGone,โ released on July 5. Extremely vulnerable and heavy, this song is all about discovering yourself after feeling really inadequate.
โGoneโ opens with a surprising twist. A nu-metal-inspired guitar riff grinds out heavily. The gritty guitars provide a head-nodding rhythm, punctuated by electrifying cymbal crashes. This intensity gives way to a shimmering, almost mysterious verse. Harpaโs vocals, thick and rich, take center stage as she sings with raw emotion. Her voice soars and trails with agony, perfectly capturing the pain of a fractured friendship.
The tension builds as the heavy guitar riff returns, propelling the song forward with an irresistible momentum. The bridge unleashes a churning, writhing guitar solo that is both cathartic and exhilarating. Itโs a moment of pure sonic release, reflecting the emotional liberation that Harpa experiences as she lets go of the past.
The radio edit of โGoneโ offers a more streamlined experience, clocking in at a shorter runtime, and gives a more accessible tune for us to hold on to.
Hearing the music, you just know the music came before the lyrics as if the instrumentals said more than words could through their vibrations. But the lyrics tell us how Harpa sheds the weight of self-doubt and embraces herself, after seeing how mistaken she was about her self-degrading presumptions. โGoneโ is a powerful and relatable song that will resonate with anyone who has ever felt overshadowed or insecure in a friendship.
