Groove out to the sounds of acari’s new track “Distant”
Carina Valdes provides vocals for the artist known as “acari,” while Kenny Nishikawa handles the production elements. It all began at Smash Mouth Studios in Campbell with a couple of homies just vibing and jamming. This resulted in the creation of acari’s debut track, “No Rules,” which was co-written with Santa Cruz musician “Amplified”. “Distant” was conceived in the artist’s bedroom studio, recalling periods of seclusion and addiction.
Live performances by acari include Sub Zero Festival, Mindful Muses for Kollab SF and Mental Health Initiative, Fahm Jam Radio: BeatthisPH Radio, and RNBRadio1 in France. For the “Distant” song, Carina spoke publicly for the first time on Reddit about her prior difficulties with addiction and how she was able to heal and return to feeling like an artist and musician. The members of the band cite UMI, Omar Apollo, and MySpace-era emo bands like The Early November and Copeland as their primary musical influences. According to the artist, the forthcoming EP consists of seven songs, and each song connects to a distinct love-related feeling.
Upon hearing “distant” you’ll immediately feel the connection with the artist. It’s full of RnB and neo-soul elements. From its catchy bassline to the slow tempo beat pattern, everything feels so darn charming to hear! The guitar riffs are silky smooth, and it’s truly magnetizing to the core. Carina’s voice is enchanting, and her sweet singing ability truly shines. We hope to hear more from this talented artist.
