Columbus native Greg Owens has never been one to play it safe, and with Harmonic Soul: Live From Rehearsal, he strips away the polish to show the raw electricity of a band in motion. Recorded on-the-fly during prep for their Juneteenth performance at Mayme Moore Park, the project documents resilience, community, and the chemistry that makes Harmonic Soul thrive. Owens, who sings, raps, and drums, joins forces with Donovan Mitchell (keys), Deivi Terreo (bass), Angel Knotts (drums), and Rizo (guitar) to blur the lines between soul, funk, and hip-hop while chasing grooves in real time.
Opening track “Everlasting Summer” sets the tone with churning guitars, splashing cymbals, and Owens’ thick, soulful voice commanding the room. He hypes the crowd with casual shouts before slipping into a catchy rap, turning rehearsal into an arena. The energy is magnetic, like heatwaves bouncing off asphalt. Then comes “Things To Do,” carried by a revving bassline and hard, ticking beats. Owens sings smoothly, but he goes, “I am really into you but I got some things to do,” flipping the script, showing that discipline matters more than romance. It’s an anthem for anyone on the grind.
By the time “Harmonic Soul Medley” arrives, the band is flying. Owens soars into falsetto while Antonio Lamar hypes him up, rap verses explode with thrill, and the drums bustle beneath shimmering keys. It comes like lifeblood spilling out through sound.
With Harmonic Soul: Live From Rehearsal, Greg Owens proves resilience has a rhythm, and this band is only getting louder.
