“I Don’t Wanna Know,” the latest single from “Desert Life”, led by Chris Swales and Tom Jordan, is a gut-wrenching alt-country gem that eloquently narrates the struggle to come to terms with the painful reality of moving on.
The track opens with a captivating drum fill, setting the stage for the country-infused instrumental section that follows. As the instrumental section takes center stage, you’ll be treated to moments of sheer beauty, thanks to the addition of gorgeous pedal steel solos.
The intelligent use of panning on the strummed instruments adds a sense of vibrancy. And as the vocals come in, Chris Swales’ emotive delivery breathes life into the pain of a man whose heart has sunk upon hearing news of his ex-girlfriend’s newfound love.
Yet, amidst the melancholic ambiance, the chorus introduces a captivating contrast. The upbeat acoustic arrangements and soaring pedal steel converge, injecting a glimmer of hope into the song.
Collaborating with producer Nick Swannell at Studio 49 in Narberth proved to be a stroke of brilliance. Their creative synergy shines through in the track, capturing the poignant emotions of letting go of a lost love and translating them into a hauntingly beautiful arrangement.
“I Don’t Wanna Know” marks the first single from Desert Life’s upcoming album, ‘Let It All Pass,’ which is set to be released in September 2023. If this single is any indication, the album will undoubtedly change the alt-country music scene for the better.
