Ubiquity Machine has returned with a new EP that’s sure to get you hooked. The duo, The Rabbit and Howard Rabach’s signature blend of catchy melodies, driving rhythms, and thought-provoking, entertaining lyrics are on full display in these three tracks of I Think It’s Funny, also mixed by Grammy-nominated engineer Martin Cooke.
I Think It’s Funny opens with the title track, “I Think It’s Funny.” This infectious tune is a perfect introduction to the band’s sound. The song’s catchy chorus and intriguing lyrics will have you singing along in no time. Meanwhile, the bridge’s funkiness wrapped in thick, warm melodies will make you want to sway, fully hypnotized by the mood. Most importantly, the song’s message about the importance of individuality and nonconformity is both timely and relevant.
“Losing Your Mind” is another standout track on the EP. This song is more hooky with an engaging, hard beat and a tightly synced rhythm and chiming melodies. All about being tired of everything, the line “The best part of paranoia is everything is so clear” particularly strikes and resonates with listeners.
“Betty and Steve” is a more ballad-like track that showcases the band’s softer but deeper and more nuanced side of storytelling. The song is a shimmering piece that opens with fuzzy guitars and continues with thumping drums. Meanwhile, the bridge surprises as it revells with rhythmic hand-claps integrated alongside his “la-la” vocalizations and a glorious and uplifting brass blowing.
