I’m A Libra by Feliciano: Review
Feliciano, a Puerto Rican artist inspired by the likes of The Killers, Coldplay, Keane, Arctic Monkeys, and Leonard Cohen, has released his latest single ‘I’m A Libra’, and it’s an energetic synth-pop meets indie-pop sound that will surely leave listeners hooked. The song is penned and produced at his home in Rincon, Puerto Rico, and has a raw recording that oozes depth and personal connection.
The sentimentality of a film noir score depicting the “boy meets girl” scenario is evident in the melody and the lyricism. Feliciano explores personal relationships and tussles with the confusion, frustration, and insatiable sensation of “not making a mistake”. The song is a tale of a crush, where the metaphysical meets the physical through conceptualizing how it feels when you first meet somebody that you romantically connect with and feel scared yet hopeful in the same sweep of the brush. ‘I’m A Libra’ has a refreshing and eclectic breath of air to modern-day music. It brings together an array of synth rock/dream pop artists such as Coldplay and The Killers, through to the gritty underground indie of the Arctic Monkeys. Feliciano has always felt compelled to create from a young age but through alternative avenues such as comedy. He made the transition into music upon intuition after hearing Coldplay’s ‘The Scientist’ where he realized the power of music as a way to evoke emotion.
Feliciano’s vocals are almost a carbon copy of Brandon Flowers, distant, reverbed, and distinguished. The 80s-inspired basslines and choppy melodics are impressive, and the vocals uniquely juxtapose the production style.
