Mark Cee may have spent roughly three decades writing songs before stepping properly into the spotlight, but Ghost Talk Show sounds less like a delayed debut than an artist finally opening the door to a room he has inhabited for years. The Long Island-based indie folk/Americana singer-songwriter records entirely at home, favouring human performances and room-present textures over excessive polish. Drawing from folk, Americana and classic songwriting traditions, his music has an intimate, lived-in quality that feels deliberately unhurried.
“I Am Dreaming Of” sets that tone beautifully. Softly strummed guitars create a gentle bed beneath Cee’s deep voice, which carries a slight echo as he sings with soothing restraint. The track settles around the listener like a quiet evening. It is simple, warm, and disarmingly calming.
The instrumental “And Now the Rain Is Gone” keeps the acoustic palette intact while adding a glistening sense of movement. Its guitar work has a subtle drive, allowing the instrumental to feel purposeful without disturbing the project’s generally reflective atmosphere. When the vocal version arrives, Cee’s thick, velvety low register gives the song an even richer character. His vibrato deepens each phrase, turning the performance into something immersive and almost hypnotic.
Then comes “Don’t Buy The Gas Station Gummies,” and, well, here is where Cee lets his funny bone loose. The track embraces a conversational storytelling style, with each line helping the narrative unfold. The song injects a welcome dose of humour and personality.
Across Ghost Talk Show, Mark Cee’s greatest strength is his ability to make modest arrangements feel emotionally substantial.
