I’m Here In The Fridge by I Panic: Review
Marcel van Tetering is a brilliant singer and multi-instrumentalist from the Netherlands who also performs as a one-man band called I Panic. Perhaps he already gave us a hint in his stage name that his music will have its own unique sound and creative spirit, paired with lyrics that would make us think. Join us as we dive into his 2021 single, “I’m Here In The Fridge,” a song that combines his typical alternative rock sounds with a touch of theater flair.
Quotable lyrics:
So how much more time do you need to let me out?
Did you forget about me?
Do I have to shout?
I’m in the fridge
I’m waiting for you to open the door
Please let me out
The song is vibrant and head-bobbing straight out of the gate, with strong percussion, a cheerful tambourine, and funky electric guitar sounds. With the audience bobbing their heads to the beat, the vocal takes center stage and commands attention with its emotional depth and entertaining tone. Despite the song’s peppy and energizing background, the lyrics are quite dramatic and hurtful. He explained that the first concept came from a discussion about how “refrigerator” was such an unusual word to appear in a song. And then the story came to him: “A little ironic story about someone locked up in a fridge as his partner needs some distance and time. Actually, a lot of it.” We look forward to hearing more from ‘I Panic’ on his lifelong quest for good music that transcends time and genre boundaries.
