AzeriahVII makes obsession feel less like a confession and more like a slow descent on “I’m Obsessed With You.” Released August 28, the debut single places bass, vocals and dark electronic textures at the center of an atmosphere. The tension is allowed to linger, becoming increasingly intimate and unsettling as the track moves forward.
A deep, revving bass immediately gives the song its weight, rumbling underneath AzeriahVII’s thick, low-register voice. The voice moves slowly but carries something almost demented in its delivery, as though desire has become too consuming to remain rational. Nico Dovan’s guitar enters with a similarly low, revving intensity, that makes the arrangement feel darker. The song keeps simmering.
That restraint is particularly effective because the emotional core is so intensely sensual. AzeriahVII’s performance feels fixated, intimate and increasingly consumed by its subject. The bass seems to become the physical embodiment of that fixation, constantly pulsing beneath the vocal while the guitar circles around it with a shadowy intensity.
The track draws from darkwave and post-punk textures while folding in alternative and electronic production, reflecting AzeriahVII’s wider tendency to treat genre as something flexible rather than restrictive. Their background in metal and electronic production comes through particularly strongly in the bass-driven foundation, which gives the song a physical presence even when its atmosphere remains sparse.
“I’m Obsessed With You” ultimately works because AzeriahVII leaves the listener suspended inside the feeling itself, where desire, sensuality and fixation become increasingly difficult to separate. It is dark, brooding and deliberately uncomfortable, and that is exactly where its power lies.
