The Trusted’s Iridescence is exactly what it promises—a shimmering, electrifying burst of indie rock that pulses with energy, emotion, and just the right amount of swagger. Hailing from Southend-on-Sea, this four-piece has crafted a collection of tracks that feel both stadium-ready and intimately personal, blending the spices from The Strokes, The 1975, and The Killers to create a zest out of this world.
The EP kicks off with ‘The Lightning,’ and it’s a storm you’ll want to get caught in. With its anthemic chorus, shimmering guitars, witty lyrics that tease and intrigue, sung in sensational vocals, the song is an instant dig with a unique standpoint.
Then comes ‘Overdrive (Switch Off),’ a deliciously addictive track that plays with electronic elements and vocal effects, layering them over plucky guitar riffs and pounding drums. The opening line—”Why am I always high, is it because I am always alone?”—gets the song diving headfirst into themes of addiction and overstimulation, all wrapped in a melody that refuses to let go.
‘Self Destruct’ kicks the energy up another notch with a punchy, punk-infused edge that pays homage to The Damned while still feeling fresh. This song is made to be played loud, a four-chord indie anthem built for big crowds and sweaty mosh pits. But then, the EP shifts gears with ‘Miracle Face,’ where delicate falsettos, layered backing vocals, and an uplifting rhythm give a moment of vulnerability amid the high-octane rush.
And then there’s ‘Iridescence,’ the title track that closes things out on a breathtaking note. Soft, breathy, husky vocals float over shimmering guitars, singing out confessions. “I want you, you light up my heart / Iridescence,” the lyrics go, and suddenly, you’re feeling things. Maybe even tearing up.
