Chayne’s new single, “It’s Gone, He’s Gone,” is a sharp, sly, and strangely endearing heartbreak anthem wrapped in theatrical indie-pop drama. Released on May 30, the track sees the 17-year-old artist blending sarcastic self-awareness with genuine emotional bruises. From the opening guitar plucks and cheeky “la la”s, Chayne delicately opens up the song with sweetness and bite. Under the playful tones lies a self-deprecating confessional that cuts deep, laced with embarrassment, regret, and clarity.
Her voice is thick with feeling, rich and tender, like she’s processing the heartbreak in real-time, laughing a little at her own naiveté. This breakup song sees it just for what it is: gone. On top of that, the cover art, with Chayne in clown makeup, screams camp. This young artist knows that the best way to face pain is to expose it.
Midway through, the track enters a warmer, breezier bridge. As it turns through the dynamic, the music slams into a zooming, driving distortion, followed by a literal spitting sound(crazy, I know) that yanks you and finds you in a strange place. This brilliant moment is a reality check crashing into a daydream.
Chayne is already coming off magnetic as a new artist for her intuitive hand in music and realizing how to create music as fresh as her look. Check out “It’s Gone, He’s Gone” to break out of your delusional bubble.
