Kepa Lehtinen released enthralling new song ‘In The Heart Of Winter, Pt.1’
The new album ‘In The Heart Of Winter’ by renowned Finnish film and television composer Kepa Lehtinen was made available on March 1st, 2023. Lehtinen is renowned for his avant-garde compositions for theremin and piano, but this time, he has gone even further.
The song ‘In The Heart Of Winter’, about which Kepa says, “Winter is, above all, a dark season in Finland, and is one of the album’s highlights. It’s also the mindset in which I’ve produced my best music. Sadness isn’t so bad if you can use it as fuel.”
An adaptation of a theme Lehtinen created for a short film is ‘Lake Theme For Saw, Theremin, And Piano’. You have to hear the theremin and saw together for yourself, he claims. Its impact is only increased by the fact that the legendary Puka Oinonen plays the saw part. Dark and ethereal, ‘Waltz For The Sleeping Helsinki’ was composed for piano, theremin, and double bass and was played by his brother Ari Lehtinen.
‘Waltz for Prepared Piano’ makes use of all the fantastic tones a piano can produce when played in an unconventional way. It’s one of Lehtinen’s most eccentric pieces and a true earworm.
