Kryo by IRJA: EP Review
London-based electronica duo IRJA have released their five-song EP, ‘Kryo’, which is a hypnotic voyage into a realm of pulsating electronica and ethereal voices.
The first track on the EP, ‘Cavistrau’ opens with a spooky, atmospheric introduction that eventually swells into a pulsing musical bed. The EP has a lively vibe because of the usage of ethereal samples and glistening synthesizers. In ‘Foot in the Door’, track two, soft, heavy vocals float over a pulsating rhythm and shimmering synthesizers to speak of the next step of trust in an intimate relationship. The third song, titled ‘Pull the Trigger’, has beautiful vocals and instrumentals while addressing the challenges of ending a long-term relationship. The wonderful piano melody and the strange setting of the song will stay with the listener long after the song has finished. The musical talent of IRJA is passionately flowing in this song, which manages to be both gloomy and absorbing. Although the fourth track, ‘Cold Air’, is more subdued, its brisk rhythm and energizing synths nevertheless keep the listener on the move. As an instrumental finale, the EP’s ‘Illumination’ track is calming and uplifting in equal measure. The song serves as an evocative conclusion to the beautiful EP.
‘Kryo’ by IRJA caters to listeners with varying tastes, from those who like eerie atmospheres to those who like upbeat rhythms; it is certainly a must if you are an electronic enthusiast.
