Love Is Poison by Amya-Ray: EP Review

It is helpful to be reminded that love is not always a picnic as we go into the most romantic time of the year. Brighton’s own up-and-coming artist Amya-Ray has returned after several years of absence with her debut EP, ‘Love Is Poison’, which also acts as her comeback and a successful one at that.
Her powerful, sincere, emotional, expressive, and personal singing voice makes this song instantly compelling, as it has with all of her previous noteworthy works. A production that enhances rather than obscures the singer’s dulcet tones is responsible for the song’s success. Her comeback song will remind fans of her style, while also continuing the topic she is most invested in, which is the suffering of contemporary women. It’s discouraging that she hasn’t been more visible in recent years, but the EP proves that she still has important things to say. She paints a vivid picture in ‘Love Is Poison’ of women’s and non-binary people’s hopes, fears, and betrayals when they take the risk of putting their trust in the love of others and find that they are used and abused in return. In ‘Love is Poison RISER Remix,’ the original is remixed into an uplifting electronic version of the song.
The songs are full of raw emotion and unvarnished honesty. Her warm and honest vocal delivery, along with the song’s delicate but soaring piano melody, makes it easy to imagine that she may be one of the year’s few most beloved newcomers.
