Lake Sommen by Sasha & The Bear: Review
Emotions take hold when we see life from a new perspective. And a medium to that is traveling. This song was written throughout the grieving stage when Sasha’s friend Dov lost his mother. During this crucial time, all they had was themselves. And without jutting to bad memories, they wanted to see life differently. They traveled around and found ease in living. They met new people, learned new cultures, experienced new things, embarked on all sorts of adventures, and extracted different flavors of music. They decided to create music and overlooked complexity.
The song ‘Lake Sommen’ is an indie pop filled with depth and inspiration. It has a melodic musical arrangement being less abrasive. A bit different than usual indie pop having ironic posturing concerned with authenticity. The chorus is repeated that builds in like a loop in your head. What’s special about this song is it subcultures the combination of pop and DYI ethic in opposition to the style and tone of mainstream pop music. This song was recorded in two different huts in Sweden with minimal equipment. The arrangement and the lyrics have certain warmth that resonate with the listeners comforting them.
Sasha Daniel and Dov Igel have been friends for many years. They worked on music together. Sasha has been a songwriter and vocalist and Dov is a synth, vocal, guitar, and production. Their productions are mostly done with the inspiration of the newness in their surroundings. They played in Sofar sounds many times in New York.
