Les Jeux De Lโamour by Candiac: Album Review
Les Jeux De Lโamour by the French-speaking classic Canadian band Candiac is here with a compilation of incredible sonic experiences! In short, it features classic sounds with a cinematic atmosphere.
Although the songs themselves are not symphonic, they would perfectly fit in massive films as titles or theme songs. In this debut work, the composer takes us to a musical world that is largely upbeat and celebratory. The songs have a jingly, perky, hooky quality that is instantly recognizable. While many of the clichรฉs employed here have been utilized many times before, over the years, the album as a whole sounds quite deliberate and well thought out, leaving little doubt about the bandโs ability to generate original ideas. Theyโre an exceptionally imaginative group whose sole goal is to compose film-themed tunes.
Charlรฉ, a singer-songwriter from the town of the same name, is at the helm of the brand-new musical group known as Candiac, which also features Simon Dechรชne and Yoland Houle. Instead of sticking with one aesthetic, they seem to be branching out without losing their sense of direction. This is what I believe truly sets them apart. The songs have memorable hooks and the lyrics are constant, with plenty of irony and connections to the real world. Overall, this project is appealing for its retro flavor, which includes elements of surf-rock, candy-pop, indie, garage-rock, and even punk!
