The up-and-coming singer/songwriter has us falling in love for the first time with his new CD.
Francis Karel has swiftly established himself as a key voice within Gen-Z culture, thanks to his enormous online following, which includes addicting Omegle replies and popular TikTok videos. The singer-songwriter releases his highly-anticipated track, “Like All My Friends,” which is loaded with vocals that carry a genuine grief that is both evocative and strangely comforting, proving that his voice transcend all platforms. “Like All My Friends” evokes that all-encompassing feeling of falling in love — and allows us to do the same with Francis and his sensitive sound. With a melody that tickles the tear ducts and the artist’s falsetto filling our stomach with butterflies, “Like All My Friends” evokes that all-encompassing feeling of falling in love — and allows us to do the same with Francis and his sensitive sound.
“Over the past few years, I’ve prioritized so many things over a love relationship,” Francis explains. School, my work, and relocating to a new nation are all on my mind. When my friends have asked if I had anything going on in my love life, I’ve always said,’maybe someday,’ but I think this song depicts me being around by so many people I care about who are in love for the first time, and wondering what that feels like.”
“I’ve never been one to talk about romance or love,” he continues, “so it was a little uncomfortable talking about it at first on ‘Like All My Friends.'” I composed the major chorus lyric ‘want to fall in love like all my friends’ first because it’s exactly how I felt at the time. It was a little humiliating to write because I’m 23 and everyone around me seems to have a lot more “love” experience than I do. My partners on this song were vital in helping me conceptualize that discomfort and genuine emotion. This song means a lot to me since it reflects me learning to be more vulnerable and opening up more.”
We can’t wait to see what personal projects Karel will sink his teeth into next, with his current offering serving as an exemplar of the significant contemplation that runs through his tune-crafting. Click down to listen to “Like All My Friends” right now…
