VISSIA is back with her on-stage album, Live, With Pleasure, along with its own documentary film this May 10. As the performance version of her original album from 2021 cross-Canada tour while supporting Canadian Alternative band USS, the album gives you raw music from the empowering Edmonton songstress.
“Doorway – Live” elevated the original song to surprising levels. With slow and immersive drones leading the way to the music, VISSIA’s voice distinguishes the song with the thickness, depth, and vibrato evident even in the lower ranges. She soars amidst the vast instrumental inundation, which is all you need to tell this is happening LIVE for real.
“Walk Me Home” has the singer finally letting her guard down and pulling down the walls by finally allowing herself to be vulnerable. Driving home, the message is the chorus, “Nothing’s wrong with being strong, but I don’t need to carry it all / Sometimes I need somebody to walk me home.”
With multiple interludes placed between the tracks of this 17-track album, the 1-minute long interlude, “With Pleasure,” is put right at the heart of the album, marked with an elegant, stoic mindset of the highs and lows of music-making. I love how it’s set because it centers the notion behind the album with VISSIA explaining in spoken word poetry what it means to her— “exciting,” “raw,” and “sometimes terrifying,” with playfulness and a desire for connection.
Live, With Pleasure comes to an end with the immersive and melancholic “About Moving On – Live,” with her voice thick with emotion, sonorously processing her feelings.
Listen to Live, With Pleasure and get transported to the electrifying atmosphere of VISSIA’s concert.
