Ohio’s alt-rock wrecking crew, Wexford, is back with a new single, “Dirty Habit,” that gets behind the raw, unflinching dangers of addiction that create a gash in our lives.
As the third single off their upcoming album, “Silent Key,” dropping this June 2024, Wexford gets intimate with acknowledgment. The track opens with shimmering guitar swirls, like sunlight glinting off a troubled mind. Then, the vocals kick in.
Dave Mueller’s voice is deep, thick with emotion, and carries the weight of the world on its shoulders. Meanwhile, the drums kick in with a casual beat, creating a sense of unease that perfectly complements the lyrics. He starts out subdued, almost defeated, but as the song progresses, the frustration boils over.
The guitars explode in a blaze of fury, mirroring the singer’s internal struggle. Mueller’s voice soars with a dark energy and his voice trails with the numbed weight. “Dirty Habit” shows us that healing is all about staring the ugliness down and raving it out.
This track gets some of the band’s dose of influences as diverse as Hot Water Music, Fugazi, Hum, and even Dashboard Confessional. This aggression, vulnerability, and melody that starts the conversation long shushed with our dirty habits. With a little self-reflection, courage, and the support of loved ones, we can break free from our dirty habits and find our way back to the light.
Here’s to Wexford for creating music that’s honest, powerful, and unapologetically real. Stay tuned for Silent Key coming this June.
