Looks Like Shimmering by The ROLF: song review
‘Looks Like Shimmering’ is the fourth single by The ROLF that belongs to their upcoming album scheduled for this Autumn. The ROLF is a swedish band from stockholm. According to Per Dahlquist, The ROLF is more of a project than a band and this particular tune was composed and produced by him at his home studio.
‘The project’ as claimed by Per Dahlquist is known for their unique sound and laidback style and ‘Looks Like Shimmering’ no different. The basic feel to the song is very bluesy with dreadful black metal-ish progression in the verse. The chorus has a somewhat rock progression with a bluesy ending and the progression in the bridge being very melo-rock. But the singing accentuates these progressions to according to the artist’s preference. Per Dahlquist has a 70’s or 80’s rock voice that goes really well with the song. There is a certain mystique in the lyrics as well. Listening to “you know where there’s a crack that’s where the light gets in” gives a feeling like we see the lights come in but we never look for the crack. The song has a certain consistency to it that proves that it is composed by one person. Per Dahlquist’s voice adds some weight to the song and makes it sound heavier than it actually is. Overall it is a great song by The ROLF that would make listeners expect more of the fantastic music produced by the band.
