Måneskin’s new single ‘Supermodel’ has a crazy visual. The cinematic visual was shot in London and pays homage to some of the band’s favorite ’90s flicks.
The Italian band’s first new song in 2022, produced by Max Martin, is loosely inspired on characters they met during their time in Los Angeles.
“After spending the best few months in LA, we wrote ‘Supermodel,'” Mneskin stated in a statement about their new track. “At times, we were astonished yet amused to discover how obsessed people were with the concept of ‘fame’ and status, stressing over their appearance and connections.”
“We always had this vision of the US as ‘the coolest country in the world where dreams come true and everyone has opportunity!” frontman Damiano David remarked during a discussion with NME for the latest Big Read. True, but there’s also a lot of injustice, unfairness, homeless people, and bigoted nonsense on the opposite side.
“At these parties, everyone was a fucking fashion icon. I was thinking, ‘How do they feel when they get home? Are they really happy? Are they really enjoying what they’re doing?’ You want to hang out with this supermodel, but you might get in trouble. It’s like cigarettes: you love them but you know they’re gonna fucking kill you. Still you’re like, ‘Whatever, I gotta die one day’.”
Bedroom projects (The 1975) and Ben Chappell directed the video for ‘Supermodel,’ which was shot in London (Arctic Monkeys, Nine Inch Nails). One part Tarantino, one part Hitchcock in terms of cinematic visuals. As a succession of disastrous events happen, it captures the song’s furious attitude and amusing lyrics. You can see it in the video below.
“In the ‘Supermodel’ music video, we wanted to pay respect to our favorite ’90s movies,” Mneskin stated in a statement. “In the tune, we attempted to convey a cinematic vibe about an enigmatic individual, and we wanted the visual to mirror that,” says the team. We collaborated extensively with the directors and Ben after coming up with the concept to replicate frame shots and sequences from our favorite 90s flicks. We had a lot of fun filming it in London, and we had a lot of fun acting in comedic situations that reminded us of a detective B-movie.”
‘Supermodel’ made its live debut earlier this month at Eurovision 2022.
The band then performed a preview of their song of Elvis Presley’s ‘If I Can Dream,’ announcing that it was composed in partnership with Baz Luhrmann and will be featured on the soundtrack to his upcoming Elvis biopic.
When it came to collaborating with Luhrmann, frontman Damiano David commented, “We felt a big connection and we decided to jump on it.” “We’re quite proud of what we’ve accomplished, and we can’t wait for you to see it.”
Meanwhile, Måneskin will embark on a European tour in 2023, which will include a stop in London. These tour dates are shown here, along with any remaining UK tickets.
