Joji Releases New Album Smithereens
Smithereens, Joji’s new album, was released on 4 November 2022 via 88rising. The singer’s distinctive style of melancholy ballads continues to develop on this new album, the follow-up to 2020’s Nectar.
The singer’s discography is replete with introspective ballads about heartbreak (“Die For You” is a prime example). While crooning over sparse piano chords and a cymbal crash, Joji tells her that he would die for her even though she has moved on and found happiness without him.
His chart-topping single “Glimpse of Us” is included on the album. The gloomy “Before The Day Is Over” and the upbeat “NIGHT RIDER” are two other highlights; the latter features some of Joji’s more adventurous production work.
Smithereens is split in half, with side A featuring the more developed introspective balladry of Joji and side B featuring his forays into lo-fi, DIY production and sounds.
