Shaz Marie turns spiritual guidance into something soft, melodic, and deeply intimate on her debut album Messages in Song – A Light in the Darkness. Released on August 28, 2026, the 51-track collection grows from years of channelled messages, drawings, and intuitive work, transforming the words behind her Ask the Angels guidance deck and companion book into music.
The title track, “A Light in the Darkness,” establishes that warmth immediately. Shimmery piano glows underneath Marie’s gentle, inspirational vocals, creating the sensation of someone quietly offering reassurance in the middle of a difficult night. When the beats arrive harder later, they give the song a welcome catch and lift, preventing its tenderness from becoming weightless. It feels like a candle gradually becoming a flame.
“Dreams” takes that encouragement somewhere brighter. Catchy guitars and snapping fingers give the track an easy rhythmic charm while a male vocalist gently sings about releasing doubt. There is something almost conversational in its simplicity, as though the song is nudging rather than preaching: sometimes moving forward begins with allowing yourself to believe that you can.
Another interesting song is “Secret Longings,” where glimmering piano opens into increasingly expansive instrumentation and thumping beats. The vocal performance carries genuine inspiration and joy, making the track feel like an inner desire finally stepping out of hiding.
With influences ranging from Enya and Sarah McLachlan to Norah Jones, Marie places her debut within a tradition of soothing, emotionally direct songwriting. The refreshed card artwork becoming each song’s cover also turns listening into an extension of the original deck, giving the project a visual as well as musical identity. Messages in Song ultimately feel like an invitation to pause, breathe, and listen, to the music, to memory, and perhaps to whatever small voice inside says there is still light ahead.
