Ever wondered what love sounds like when sung by the last two dinosaurs on Earth? Wonder no more—The Dinosaur’s Skin has you covered. This Taiwanese Jurassic-Pop duo has dropped their first UK single, “Meteor Shower,” and it’s nothing short of a prehistoric dreamscape.
Fronted by Trex and Triceratops—two dinosaurs who survived the mass extinction by wormholing their way to modern-day Taipei—The Dinosaur’s Skin blends ancient sorrow with futuristic vibes in what they call “Post-Extinction Fossilcore.” And if that’s not intriguing enough, their latest single features the ethereal vocals of Golden Melody Award-winner Waa Wei, adding an extra layer of celestial charm.
“Meteor Shower” is a bittersweet cosmic love song wrapped in shimmering retro-pop melodies. Imagine sugary clouds rolling by as delicate guitar chimes cascade around heavy basslines. The vocals dance between tender falsettos and lush harmonies, creating a soundscape that feels as fleeting and beautiful as, well, a meteor shower.
The lyrics are heartbreakingly romantic:
“Love me / Take me to a place where the trees are evergreen / Love me / Tell me I’m the brightest star you have ever seen.”
It’s the tale of two asteroids hurtling toward Earth, savoring their fleeting moments together while facing inevitable destruction. It’s tragic, poetic, and weirdly uplifting—because even as the end approaches, they’re holding hands (or claws?) and embracing the ride.
If you think a band from the Cretaceous period would struggle to connect, think again. Their debut EP, Millions of Years Apart, has already earned them Golden Melody and Golden Music nominations, racked up millions of Spotify streams, and taken them to stages from SXSW to Paris.
The Dinosaur’s Skin has proven that even the oldest souls can create something timeless—and they’re taking us all along for the ride. Listen to this song and this Jurassic love story sweep you off your feet.
