Haus of Soundโs third single, โMirage,โ hits like a suffocating, scorching, and addictive desert storm. Trading in the pop-punk sass and ska-punk chaos of their earlier singles for something darker and more cinematic, this release pivots into heavier emotional terrain.
From the haunting ambient intro to the explosive chorus, โMirageโ builds a towering structure of frustration, self-doubt, and personal reckoning. The dual vocals of Gabrielle and Dex Morgenstern bring undeniable tension to the track, fusing melodic desperation with sharp, spoken-word verses that feel like pages torn from a scorched diary.
Gabrielleโs voice cuts through the haze with urgency, her delivery brimming with frustration and longing. Then Dex comes in, his voice low, grave, and clenched like a fist, confronting through the lines. Their back-and-forth dynamic is a psychological warfare as they pass verses like torches, burning through disillusionment and fractured identity. One moment youโre climbing with them toward hope, the next youโre falling, dragged down by doubt. No doubt, their chemistry is volatile, in the best way possible.
The production leans into the tension, with gritty guitars growling under thudding drums and atmospheric synths, like hallucinations in the heat. The chorus swells with distortion and desperation: โFooled again, another mirage / Climbed to the top just for another faรงade.โ You feel the exhaustion, the looping journey, the emotional gravity pulling you down each time you think youโve made it out. Itโs alt-rock with a heavy heart, a throwback to early 2000s emotional-core but polished with a relevant cinematic edge.
By the time the whispered bridge arrives, itโs like standing still in a tense, eerie, and intimate sandstorm. โMirageโ offers a gripping glimpse of the emotional depth and thematic ambition that their upcoming debut album Campfire Stories might just deliver.
