Morgan Wallen, a native of East Tennessee and a devoted Vols supporter, took to Twitter on Thursday to throw some shade at Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin.
Kiffin shared a video of an Ole Miss football practice that featured one of Wallen’s songs playing in the background. Wallen was mentioned in the tweet by the Rebels’ head coach.
“Heupel is seeking for a quality offensive coordinator,” Wallen reacted with a snarky tweet.
Of course, the Vols already have an excellent offensive coordinator in Alex Golesh (Kiffin actually tried to hire Golesh at Ole Miss this offseason, but Golesh stayed at Tennessee).
Wallen, who frequently mentions the Vols in his lyrics, is well aware of this. He’s simply implying that Heupel is a superior offensive coordinator that Kiffin.
In terms of statistics, he’s correct. Last season, Heupel and the Vols were the nation’s No. 7 scoring team, while Kiffin and the Rebels were the nation’s No. 24 scoring squad.
With Heupel and Golesh in charge, I believe the Vols will be fine. However, Wallen’s jab at Kiffin is likely to make Tennessee supporters smile this week.
