Accomplished actor, singer and writer, Grace McLean has finally released her debut album, โMy Lovely Enemyโ this May 10 under Meridian/ECR Music Group (Sony). Through classics and souls, she unravels episodes of exhilarating soul-searching inspired by her own breakup.
My Lovely Enemy kicks off with the title track, a cinematic adventure that shimmers and beats with playful orchestral flourishes. McLeanโs deep voice is an eccentric and eclectic powerhouse as it swoops, soars, and vibrates with raw emotion, pulling you headfirst into her world.
Having previously reviewed the melancholic, sensual, and soulful โAlbertine,โ I was excited to listen to it as it does nothing less than touch me and anyone with a molten yearning for love through Gothic or Victorian halls with a cigarette in hand.
Then comes โGazelle,โ a track so light and airy it feels like skipping stones across a crystal-clear lake. McLeanโs soprano vocals dance effortlessly, leaving a trail of vibrant sonic ripples. โOcean Vaporโ throws a curveball with its intriguing mystery. Pulsing organic, traditional percussion and chanting tribalistic vocals create a hypnotic groove in which McLean dives with her low head voice, now breathy and sultry in an all-knowing tone.
My Lovely Enemy is exactly what you would expect from this accomplished singer, songwriter, and actress. With numerous awards like the 2022 Black Bear Award for Best Sound at the Athens International Film Festival, Grace McLean shows us sheโs as good as it gets.
